updates part 2: community clinicals

then in community clinical we discussed sexual health. some of the mini presentations were a bit wording and the vocab was a little..advanced..and the women seemed a bit bored/zoned out. but then it got a little more interesting and fun and more engaging. i discussed female condoms (do yall know about those? they look like bags hangin out of your vajayjay and the inside ring is like a nuvaring and the outer part should be enough to cover the labia so broader STI prevention..also they don’t break down in heat or humidity..in some countries they’re reusable. not easily broken. not made of latex. polyurethene or nitrile usually. and u can put it in 8hrs in adv. take your nuvaring out tho - only for 2 hrs! twist before pulling out or you’ll get a splash. i tried one and wore it for a few hrs. not bad at all really. but hard as hell to put in! and not very sexy. they should come w/ an applicator)

anyways some women were very uncomfy w/ some of the topics..esp the condom education. one was making child-like grossed out faces, another seemed very conservative culturally and was very quiet, another was quiet but interested, and a few kept running out to hush their crying kids. one thought it was ‘disgusting’ and ‘would never touch those’ i politely said that an infected penis is much worse. it concerned me for a few reasons: 1) not knowing what type of abuse some of these women had suffered, i wondered what kind of bad memories we were bringin up w/ some of the convo and of course didn’t want to force them to touch anything they didn’t want to. my friend demonstrated cheeking (putting the condom in your cheek and applying it with your mouth to the penis..a sexy trick and a safe 1 for prostitutes to use on johns who don’t want to wear a condom- they don’t even notice). 2) i knew some didn’t want to take the condoms in front of others. my friend said we should’ve made bags to hand out to every1. 3)some of the info presented i could tell wasn’t being fully digested and some impt pts were kinda breezed over but i didn’t want to jump in too much (i did, some) and take over.

but yall know i’m passionate about women’s health!!

oh and the lady i met last week was still there and said she received my letter. yay =) i almost didn’t recognize her (new hair)

next week we have an exam as well as a condom drive thru where we willbe standin in the streets giving out a variety of condoms  and wavin big signs saying things like ‘wrap it before you tap it’  ‘protect the family jewels’  etc

some are funny

kudos to my friend for finding them
